We bring the film-loving community together with screening events to celebrate a diverse range of filmmakers by presenting the films that launched their careers.
Each screening event begins by showcasing the short film of an exciting, emerging filmmaker and the debut feature film of an established director, followed by a special live Q&A where both directors will discuss their films and provide an insightful breakdown of the process, struggles and successes associated with the art of movie making.
The FIRST FILM CLUB was founded by film critic Hanna Flint and producer Natalie Louise with a commitment to championing diverse, emerging filmmakers from all over the UK.
Previous screenings and Q&As:
Mike Leigh - Bleak Moments (1971)
Amma Asante - A Way of Life (2004)
Gurinder Chadha - Bhaji on the Beach (1993)
With short films from:
Florence Keith-Roach - A Family Affair (2019)
Tracy Kiryango - Colourblind (2019)
Toby Fell-Holden - Balcony (2017)
If you're an emerging filmmaker based in the UK, yet to make your first feature, and would like to submit your short film to us for consideration, please email us at thefirstfilmclub@gmail.com with a screening link, a short summary of the film and a short bio about yourself.
